Time running out to save Athlone Animal Welfare

Athlone Animal Welfare (AAW ) has announced that it will cease its voluntary operation unless a new committee is willing to take over the running of the charity.

AAW was established in 2009, aiming to prevent the neglect and mistreatment of animals, to encourage responsible pet ownership, and to raise awareness on key animal welfare issues through education and information.

To date, AAW has run numerous educational campaigns including: spay and neuter, microchipping, pet safety at Hallowe’en, encouraging people not to buy pets at Christmas, the importance of wildlife, and dog bite prevention.

The current committee of members are no longer in a position to continue with the charity and feel that AAW requires a new injection of pace, commitment, and ideas.

AAW would love to hear from any person/group that would be interested in bringing the group forward. Any interested parties are urged to make contact by email only as soon as possible.

AAW will cease activities on Friday, June 23, unless it can be passed into the hands of another group of volunteers. Should activity cease then all equipment and monies will be divided and transferred to other animal welfare charities decided on by the outgoing committee.

AAW are a registered charity and have an established Facebook page and website. An agreed weekly radio slot has been developed with Athlone Community Radio and very positive links developed locally with vets and members of other charity groups.

AAW would like to extend huge appreciation to everyone who has supported, volunteered, and given of their time and commitment to the group throughout the years.
