Funding of €7,000 for Burgess Park play area

Burgess Park is to receive funding under the capital grant scheme for play and recreational areas.

Under the scheme, Burgess Park Playground Extension and Upgrade (Athlone Municipal District ) is to receive €7,000.

The news has been welcomed by local Independent councillor, Ailish McManus.

“I am delighted to see the play area in Burgess Park receiving new funding as it is widely used and is a wonderful amenity for the town,” Cllr McManus said.

“It is important to recognise the huge importance of play spaces for our children as it encourages children of all ages to share the space.

“The scheme is inclusive, accessible, safe, and takes into account the views of children and young people.”

Cllr McManus gave special thanks to Independent Deputy, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, for his efforts in securing the funding for Burgess Park.

“Play is very much the work of children and improving the quality of play and recreational facilities available to children will reap dividends in years to come,” she concluded.
