AIT students runners-up in national chemistry competition

During Easter, AIT sent two teams to complete in the annual Eurachem Analytical Measurement Competition (EAMC ) hosted by the Dublin Institute of Technology Chemistry Department.

The AIT team of Lisa Kelly and Vlasta Chyzna were placed second of 25 teams, with the IT Sligo team finishing as overall winners.

The EAMC is designed to raise awareness among student analysts of uncertainty in measurement and the requirement for excellence in analytical skills. The competition is open to teams of two full-time third-level registered students studying laboratory sciences in universities or institutes of technology anywhere in Ireland and who have not yet entered the third year of their course.

Competitors are chosen by their own institution for their practical laboratory skills. Each institution may submit a first team and one reserve team for the national final.

Team A from AIT placed second. Team members included: Lisa Kelly (Biovet 2 ), Vlasta Chyzna (H Cert 2 ). AIT Team B members consisted of Lauryn Bracken (Pharm Sc 2 ) and Claire Crowley (Biotech 2 ). All four AIT students are studying chemistry for two years and are on four separate science courses in AIT, namely the Higher Certificate in Science, BSc (Hons ) in Toxicology, BSc (Hons ) in Pharmaceutical Science, and BSc (Hons ) in Biotechnology courses.
