Keena calls for surfacing of lane between Clonbrock and Greenway

Local Fianna Fáil councillor Frankie Keena has called on the council to surface the back lane between Clonbrock Court and the Greenway.

In moving this motion at last week’s meeting of the Athlone Municipal District, Cllr Keena said that he has received numerous representations from people in Retreat Park and Clonbrock Court regarding the need to surface this section of walkway.

“As it stands, it is a makeshift walking trail that is uneven and very mucky in wet conditions. It is the only direct route to the Greenway for the residents in these areas and it is so important to make it pedestrian and cyclist friendly as soon as possible,” he said.

Pat Nally, district engineer, stated that Athlone’s new main drainage system will be going along this trail and that it is unwise to give it a permanent surface straight away.

In noting the response, Cllr Keena requested that a temporary measure needs to be put in place for the residents with the provision of appropriate road plainings.

Mr Nally said that he will communicate with the residents of the area on the matter.
