Cool greys are this season’s hottest colours

It is no longer grey outside, but this moody shade is firmly planting its feet inside as the most in-demand colour in carpet.

“Greys are easy on the eye, so they make a great base shade for rooms - on floors, walls, curtains or fabrics - plus they suit both period and contemporary schemes,” says David Cormack, marketing director at Cormar Carpets.

“The hue works well in any interior scheme as it is not a scene-stealer. It looks sophisticated in living rooms, makes bedrooms feel soothing, and creates a welcoming space in entrances.”

The simplicity of a grey floor makes it a very practical investment for any room in the home. From interior designers and developers to householders looking to update the look of a room, it is grey-toned flooring options that are now being sought after.

Equally, more and more people are choosing to experiment with texture, such as a lustrous deep pile or a wool loop texture, to give a different look and to contrast with hard flooring. Complement with low-height sofas and large light windows for a soft and serene living space.

“You can keep your greys warm, with amber and burnt sienna undertones, or cooler with blush tones and icy blues mixed in,” David adds. “Go monochromatic and cover your entire space in grey hues, and do not forget that white paintwork and accent colours really ‘pop’ when teamed with grey.”

Create ‘Scandi’ pared-back style by tempering a grey carpet with pale wood accents, natural materials, and textures. For a warm, welcoming environment, opt for a deeper grey carpet coupled with hints of burnt oranges and reds.
