Robbie Henshaw selected for Lions

Athlone rugby star Robbie Henshaw is one of 11 Irish players to be selected for the British and Irish Lions squad to tour New Zealand in the summer.

Henshaw is part of a 41-man squad selected by Lions coach Warren Gatland last week.

The selection is yet another feather in the cap of the former Buccaneers man, who is currently enjoying an impressive debut season for Leinster.

The 23-year-old's selection will come as no surprise to those who have been following his meteoric rise since his Ireland debut against the United States back in 2013, with a particular high point being the try he scored against the mighty All Blacks in Chicago a few months ago which helped to secure Ireland's first victory over New Zealand for more than 100 years.

The Lions will face New Zealand on June 24, July 1, and on July 8. They will also come up against the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians and a series of Super XV teams, including the Crusaders, Highlanders, Chiefs, Hurricanes, and Blues.
