Great music and comedy at Pillar House Folk Club

The Pillar House Folk Club, Ballinasloe, continues to offer the best live folk music that the country has to offer, and now comedy is on the bill as well.

The folk music and comedy schedule for April and May is full with artists who are all making their debut performances in The Pillar House and Ballinasloe.

Maria Doyle Kennedy will play Pillar House on Friday, April 21. With more than 30 years in the music and acting industry, she has established herself as one of the country’s most prolific entertainers, having released albums with The Black Velvet Band and 10 solo albums.

Her acting career has included roles in The Committments, Albert Nobb and most recently Sing Street and The Conjuring 2. Her TV roles have included starring roles in The Tudors, Downton Abbey, Titanic, Call The Midwife and more.

King Street Bluegrass, from Virginia in the United States, will bring their acoustic mix of bluegrass, folk music, and country to The Pillar House on Thursday, April 27.

The Henry Girls - sisters Karen, Lorna, and Joleen McLaughlin - from Malin, Donegal, make their debut appearance on Friday, May 19. Their music falls within the realm of folk, americana, rock, bluegrass and blues with a touch of Irishness tossed in for good measure.

And Karl Spain, one of Ireland’s premiere comedians, will play the Pillar House on Friday, May 26.

The Pillar House also has live music in the front bar every Saturday night and a lively weekly trad session on Sunday evenings at 6pm.

Food is served from 9am with breakfast, lunch, and an à la carte dinner menu with daily specials available up to 9pm daily.
