Troy calls for the resumption of Bus Éireann negotiations

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Transport, Deputy Robert Troy, has encouraged unions and management at Bus Éireann to re-enter negotiations at the earliest opportunity.

Deputy Troy made the comments as the industrial action at the semi-State company entered its 11th day.

“People are becoming increasingly frustrated by the lack of progress being made in the Bus Éireann dispute. It’s alarming that the strike has been allowed to continue for such an extended period of time without any side indicating willingness to compromise,” said Deputy Troy.

“Unions and management need to give a clear commitment that they will accept an invitation to resume talks should such an invitation be extended by the Workplace Relations Commission. There will need to be a show of good faith from both sides to allow the talks to resume, and it's important that no further wildcat strikes occur."

Deputy Troy said there is an onus on unions and management to resolve this dispute as quickly as possible.

"Tens of thousands of Bus Éireann passengers are being impacted by the strike action. Bus Éireann is facing a significant financial challenge which threatens the future of the company. This challenge is becoming increasingly difficult with each day that this strike continues," he said.

“Minister Ross also needs to give a commitment that he will establish parallel talks between all stakeholders to discuss the future of Bus Éireann services. There are significant structural challenges facing the company. These will not be overcome through productivity and pay changes alone.”
