With only a few weeks to go to the Sport Ireland Yeats Tour of Sligo the event is generating huge interest, with cycling enthusiasts from all over the country expected to descend on Sligo on the May bank holiday weekend.
This popular event is the largest mass participation leisure cycling event in the north-west and it is expected that 2,000 cyclists of all ages and cycling experience will take part.
The cyclists will be joined by event ambassador Eve Mc Crystal, gold medallist at the Rio Paralympics, who is encouraging cyclists to take part.
“Cycling is good for fitness and health, and I encourage people of all ages and cycling experience to start training and join me in Sligo on the May bank holiday weekend for the first event of the Sport Ireland Cycle Series," she said.
Cyclists of all cycling experience will be catered for with events on Sunday, April 30, over 60km, 100km, 160km, taking place. Families and newcomers to cycling can participate in the 10km on Saturday, April 29, while also enjoying a Family Fun Day.
All events start from the Knocknarea Arena, IT Sligo, and along the route cyclists are guaranteed good signage, friendly marshalling, mechanical back-up, quality food stops, and a hot meal at the end. Samaritans Sligo is the nominated charity for the event.
To avail of the early bird entry fee, participants are encouraged to register by Wednesday, April 19. The event is capped at 2,000 participants and hence all cyclists intending to participate are encouraged to register well in advance to avoid disappointment.
