Athlone Animal Welfare is offering primary schools the opportunity to avail of the Safe and Hound Dog Bite Prevention Programme. The programme is innovative and interactive, and best of all is delivered free of charge by AAW.
Statistics show that up to half of all children have been bitten by a dog by the time they are 12 years old. The majority of bites are by a family dog or another dog known to the child, and many can be prevented through education.
Through the programme children learn how to read dog body language and how to act safely around dogs. Several different teaching strategies are used, with a focus on physical activity and positive messages.
Should your school be interested please make contact as soon as possible, as opportunities to avail of the programme are limited. Schools can register their interest by emailing [email protected].
