The auction season begins again with Aidan Foley’s antique and fine art auction, taking place at Galway Auction Rooms this Saturday, January 28.
Foley has received a good collection of antique furniture from an estate in Ballinrobe, including a Georgian mahogany inlaid bureau bookcase, a Victorian mahogany cheval mirror, a Regency mahogany lady’s sewing table, and an unusual gilt bow front pier display cabinet.
The art section is headed by an impressive bog oak curragh, entitled ‘Ancient Boat of Dreams’, by Ronnie Graham (265cm X 65cm ) and three Graham Knuttel original paintings, along with one painting by Arthur Madderson, who is believed to be the world’s greatest living impressionist painter. There will also be offerings from many other Irish and continental artists.
An interesting horology section contains a double fusee walnut bracket clock. There will also be a large quantity of collectibles including postcards, some James II gun money, silver, jewellery, and an old map of Galway. Also included in the sale are 10 antique Persian handwoven rugs.
The current fashion for painting old furniture will have painting enthuasists satisfied with a collection of vintage furniture.
