Westmeath County Council has announced a grant scheme to encourage and promote local festivals and events that involve significant voluntary input and generate increased economic activity for the local area.
The council recognises the extent of the voluntary effort involved in the organisation of festivals and events and the contribution that festivals and events make to the lives of the people of the county, and the benefits in terms of increased local economic activity.
In recognition of these benefits, the council has put a grant scheme in place for 2017. Funding support will be up to a maximum of 50 per cent of the net costs incurred and applications received will be assessed based on an agreed selection criteria.
It is intended to have two rounds for applications during the year: one in January and one again in May. Festivals which are scheduled during the period January to June, 2017, should now apply for round one grants.
Applications for grants should be received by Westmeath County Council prior to Tuesday, January 31.
