Pillar House spring folk schedule

The Pillar House Folk Club in Ballinasloe has released its spring schedule for the venue, announcing some great upcoming Friday gigs.

The spring schedule is set to kick off with Don Stiffe on Friday, January 20. The Galway singer/songwriter was a finalist in the All Ireland Talent Show in 2011 and has also performed in Ireland and abroad. Stiffe’s debut album Start of a Dream won him vocal cut of the year from the Live Ireland 2010 awards.

Leslie Dowdall and Mike Hanrahan will follow by performing on Friday, February 24. The pair have begun a writing and performing partnership after long-running solo and band careers. Dowdall has toured with multiple bands like U2, Van Morrison, Sinead O’Connor, and Bob Dylan. Hanrahan has worked with some of the biggest names in Irish folk music, from performing with Ronnie Drew to Finbar Fury and Johnny McAvoy on Legends of Irish Folk.

The venue will then invite Paddy Casey on Friday, March 24. Casey has performed alongside U2 on their Vertigo tour and performed sold-out gigs in the RDS and Olympia theatre. Casey’s second album Living outsold U2 to be the biggest seller in Ireland.

To wrap up the spring schedule, Maria Doyle Kennedy will perform on Friday, April 21. The singer-songwriter and actress is best known from The Commitments and Sing Street though she has also performed with the Hothouse Flowers and The Black Velvet Band.

The venue has been described as “up close and personal” in its seating approach with tickets being sold at €20. Each gig is set to begin at 9pm. For more information check out their website on thepillarhouse.ie
