Osteoporosis Ireland are to hold clinics in The Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Saturday, January 21.
Osteoporosis is a silent disease affecting one in two women and one in four men over the age of 50 in Ireland, although all age groups can be affected.
The good news is that it is preventable and treatable at all stages. Osteoporosis Clinic Ireland is a multi-disciplinary clinic for bone health providing nutritional therapy, bone density scanning, and specific physiotherapy designed exercises for people with osteopenia or osteoporosis. The clinic also offers the opportunity of early diagnosis for those predisposed to this disease.
There are usually no warning signs an individual has developed osteoporosis, and it is often only diagnosed when a bone is fractured after even minor falls. Loss of bone-building materials can occur as the body ages and is particularly prevalent among post-menopausal women. The most up-to-date research shows that combining a diet, exercise, and a supplement plan, along with prescribed treatment, is the way forward.
Susan Boland, nutritional therapist and fitness coach, will tailor a protocol to your specific needs using natural interventions, bone-supportive nutrients from the diet, and nutritional supplements.
Karen Byrne, bone densitometrist, provides onsite ultrasound bone density scans for clients. The scan is non-invasive and radiation free. A bone profile blood test as well as specific nutrient testing will be reviewed and Karen will explain your DEXA scan and monitor your progress on an ongoing basis.
The clinic’s chartered physiotherapists use the most up to date exercises to target the muscles, making the bones tougher and less vulnerable to fracture, improving posture, and increasing bone density.
Follow-up clinics are held to review every client’s progress and update their individual protocols. Susan and Karen use the most up-to-date research in the development of their programme, and look forward to engaging with you on your journey to improving your bone health.
Osteoporosis Ireland’s next clinics will be held in The Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Saturday, January 21.
