Expressions School of Speech and Drama presents ‘Elf Junior’

Caroline Cunningham established Expressions School of Speech and Drama more than 10 years ago and it has grown and developed over those years into the fantastic facility it is today.

Two years ago Caroline gave up her day job to pursue a full business career in speech and drama. She has classes in Moate and in Ballinahown during the week, catering for children from four years of age upwards.

Last September saw the establishment of a youth theatre class specifically for secondary school students. This class concentrates on meaningful and thought-provoking scripts and on camera presentation to aid students in the exams they will face in the near future. It was decided before finishing up for last summer’s break that the school would begin this term with a musical.

Expressions School of Speech and Drama has purchased the rights to perform Elf Junior, the musical based on the New Line cinema film written by David Berenhaum. Casting, singing, and scripting commenced in September. This project sees the emerging youth theatre amalgamate with the rest of the school to perform in Tuar Ard Arts Centre on January 13 and 14 at 8pm, and on Sunday, January 15, at 3pm.

The story is about Buddy who believes he is an elf. On overhearing the elves say he is human, he ventures from the North Pole to New York to meet his dad and all the adventures begin. Music is provided by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Caroline is thrilled to have Louise McEvoy as the musical’s director and choreographer. A new member of the team this year is singing coach Ailbhe Kelly.

To help with the production costs of the show there will be a soiree in Dún Na Sí teach ceoil on December 9 from 7-9pm. There will be mulled wine, a range of Christmas savouries and some live entertainment from intermediate students and special guests, We Love Short Shorts.

For more information or to book soiree tickets call Caroline on (087 ) 4156046.
