Ballymore event to focus on mental health

A major seminar focusing on mental wellbeing is to be held in Ballymore, Co Westmeath on December 9, and will feature talks from national sporting figures.

Organised by Ballymore GAA Club, the event will focus on the experience of those facing personal difficulties, and the support services available. It takes place on Friday, December 9 from 7.45-9.30pm at Ballymore Community Centre.

Three national sporting figures will attend the event to talk about their experience with issues ranging from gambling and drug addiction to depression and financial problems.

Former Irish rugby international players Shane Byrne and Neil Francis will speak at the event, along with Oisín McConville who played senior football for Armagh.

‘You don’t have to take every journey on your own’ is the message the organisers would like to come out from the event, which is free of charge and open to all - whether you are struggling with an issue yourself, concerned about a loved one, or would like to find out more about how to support others in the community.

The seminar has been planned with the support of organisations including the Gardaí, MABS, Mental Health Ireland, Good2Talk, the Samaritans, SADS Foundation, and Pieta House.
