The Gateway Youth Project, Athlone, won three awards for best educator, most stunning video visuals, and standout maker project at Creative Techfest on November 4.
The standout maker project was for the young people’s work on a number of programmes around the themes of science, technology, engineering, art and maths (STEAM ) projects. These projects included robots they created, and producing a film on STEAM.
The film, entitled The Workhouse, won Most Stunning Video Visual. This was a project completed by 11 young people as part of their Component Certificates Level 3 in media expression over the summer in the Gateway Youth Project.
Foróige youth worker Megan Depinna was presented with this year’s Educator of the Year Award. Foróige Techspace Programme in the Gateway Youth Project combines the trusted principles and practice of youth work with the use of technology as a tool to engage young people in creative learning and encourage them to use their interests in technology in an active constructive way rather than just passively using technology such as social media.
The Gateway Youth Project is currently looking for volunteers for its TechSpace programme in the areas of coding, film making, music production, and graphic design.
