It was good news for Athlone yesterday (Wednesday ) as Teleflex opened its newly constructed Global Operations and International headquarters.
The plant at the IDA Business Park in Garrycastle was opened by Minister of State for OPW and Flood Relief, Sean Canney. The new facility, which is to be the centre of global operations for Teleflex, represents a €13.5 million investment by the company in Athlone.
Those in attendance at the launch heard that Teleflex is still in the process of recruiting highly skilled individuals for its workforce. Currently employing in the region of 200 staff, the plant has the capacity to provide a further 40 positions initially, and a further 100 jobs in the future.
Fine Gael Longford-Westmeath Senator, Gabrielle McFadden, has welcomed the opening as “a real sign of confidence in the town”.
“In what is an uncertain world in the aftermath of the Brexit vote, it is really encouraging to see significant global companies like Teleflex investment in Athlone and showing commitment to their future in the town,” she said.
“While we have had much success in job creation across all regions in recent years, it is important we do not become complacent. Fine Gael’s vision is that only a strong economy supporting people at work can pay for the services needed to create a just and fair society. It allows us to invest in quality public services that will benefit people and communities right around the country.
“Investments such as this one by Teleflex give out a great signal of confidence in Athlone and they highlight for other companies the benefits of locating in a town like Athlone and the surrounding region. We have a highly skilled workforce more than ready to meet the needs and requirements of other global companies looking to locate here.”
