‘The Story of Garrycastle GAA Club’ launches in the Shamrock Lodge

The Story of Garrycastle GAA Club, a book written by Diarmuid Ó Riain, and launched by Anthony Cunningham in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Saturday, October 29, has been warmly received by the local community.

The book gives a fascinating insight into the dramatic rise of Westmeath’s most decorated club of modern times. Founded in 1981, the club developed a solid underage structure which was the foundation for its senior successes in recent years.

Garrycastle won the first of its seven county Senior titles in 2001 and became the first Westmeath team to win the Leinster Senior championship. The progress of the club is graphically illustrated in this book. There was no magic formula involved, just a lot of hard work by ambitious people. Whatever the future holds, Garrycastle GAA Club has already built up a spirit and a tradition that should sustain it for many years to come.

The book is available at a cost of just €20 from the Spar shop in Garrycastle. For more information contact Dermot Ryan on (087 ) 6795887.
