Man arrested in connection with fatal stabbing in Longford town

Gardaí have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the investigation into a fatal stabbing that occurred in Longford town on Tuesday (November 1 ) at approximately 11.50am.

A man, in his early 30s, was discovered with chest wounds on Tuesday. He was removed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The scene was preserved and technically examined.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in the Longford area on Tuesday, and at time of writing was still being detained at Longford Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí have also issued an appeal for information about a man seen in the area of Longford Shopping Centre at around midday on Tuesday. He was wearing a blue tracksuit top with a red stripe on the sleeves, grey tracksuit bottoms, and trainers.

Gardaí are requesting anyone who may have been in the Great Water Street/ Rue Noyal Chatillon Street area, or around the shopping centre between 11.30am and 12 noon on Tuesday to contact them at Longford Garda Station on (043 ) 3350570, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
