RTÉ sports presenter, Darragh Maloney, conducted the official launch of the Doon GAA Lip Sync Battle in Martins of Doon last Wednesday night, October 12.
The fundraising event is being held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, on December 17 to support the ongoing development of the club grounds as well as player development of all age groups within the club.
In launching the event, Darragh Maloney acknowledged the massive undertaking by the club to run the event, saying it demonstrates the ambition of the club in doing so.
Chairman Kieran Rigney expressed his thanks to everyone involved and outlined that the objective of the event was to add to the considerable facilities at the club which are open to the entire community.
At present, the club has a total of 10 teams playing gaelic football, ranging from U6s right up to adult senior level. With costs rising year-on-year, it is paramount that the club has the funding to meet the day-to-day running costs and to facilitate larger capital projects to grow the club in the coming years.
Master of ceremonies for the event will be well-known comedian, Alan Shortt. Tickets cost €20 and are available from any member of the committee.
