Two second-half St Loman’s goals sealed a deserved victory over a spirited Garrycastle outfit at Cusack Park.
With Alex Gardiner lively in attack for Garrycastle the opening period was tight. Loman’s went in with a 0-6 to 0-5 advantage at the break, but the Mullingar outfit landed the blows that mattered when the action recommenced. A great Loman’s burst which included points from Paul Sharry, Shane Dempsey, David Whelan, and Ken Casey edged them clear.
As half time approached Garrycastle improved, ensuring the issue was delicately poised. Heslin quickly added two points before Gardiner responded. Sean Flanagan, though, assumed centre stage by blasting a brilliant goal for Loman’s following smart play by Gary Glennon.
Gardiner kept Garrycastle in touch, but Shane Dempsey sealed the deal with a Loman’s goal. In the fourth quarter both teams were reduced to 13 men, but Loman’s were satisfied to advance to the semi-final.
