1916 interactive exhibition to take place in Shamrock Lodge

Athlone Community Radio, in conjunction with the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, presents '1916: History Remembered', a one-day interactive exhibition on Saturday, October 1 from 1.30-5.30pm.

The event will feature two performances of a 15-minute play, entitled 1916 - A Bird's Eye View, by Coosan Beechpark Community Games Culture Corner Team, winner of the 2016 All-Ireland competition. The performances will take place at 2pm and 2.45pm.

Two special talks have been organised for the event: Claire Hall will speak on 'The role of women in the Rising' at 3.15pm, and Ian Kenneally will give a talk entitled 'Bayonets and Bulletins: the news and revolution' at 4.30pm.

Attendees will be able to view film clips, photographs, and newspaper articles from the era, and there will be free valuation available on items from the Irish Revolutionary Period and World War I.

The event will also feature exhibitions by Benny Cooney, Tom Evans, Dennis McGonagle, Thomas O'Neill, Gary McDonnell, John Doran, and Derryglad Folk Museum, as well as a research information stand by Tricia Dillon.

All are welcome, and dressing up in clothes from the time is encouraged.

Entry is €5, and children under 12 go free.
