Upgrade of Waste Water Treatment Plant opens new industry potential – Moran

Confirmation this week that Irish Water has approved the interim upgrade of the Athlone Waste Water Treatment Plant at a cost of €3.3m will facilitate greater economic development in the area, according to Longford-Westmeath Independent Deputy, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.

Deputy Moran confirmed that that contractor is scheduled to start on site in October and is expected to be complete the work in 12 months.

“This project is very important for the people of Athlone in terms of facilitating new economic development and jobs while also providing for a growing population,” said Deputy Moran. “The upgrade will bring important benefits to Athlone and the wider catchment area ensuring greater capacity for future economic growth. The upgrade will also accommodate an increase in the local population.”
