Sasha in Golden Island closes doors

There was devastating news for employees of Athlone’s Sasha store this week as it was announced that it is to cease trading in Golden Island Shopping Centre.

Approximately 300 staff in 42 Sasha outlets across the country, including Athlone, learned on Tuesday that the company behind the retail chain had gone into liquidation.

Denholme, an unlimited company trading as Sasha, went into examinership in November last year, and David Carson of Deloitte was appointed as liquidator.

Sasha had been facing increasingly difficult trading conditions in recent months, but failed to attract new investment. The High Court heard on Monday that the company was facing debts of almost €10 million, which it was having difficulty meeting.

The popular fashion retailer had been in business in Ireland for 27 years.
