A 38-year-old local man appeard in court this week in relation to a robbery at a bookmakers in Baylough last weekend.
The burglary occurred at approximately 3.40pm on Saturday September 17, when a lone male armed with a knife entered the shop and threatened staff, before making off in a car with a sum of cash. No one was injured during the incident.
A man was arrested a short time later during a follow-up operation involving local Garda and Traffic Units, and brought to Athlone Garda Station. A car and quantity of cash were also recovered.
The man appeared in Longford District Court, and was remanded to appear in Athlone District Court on October 26.
