Athlone woman publishes collection of stories and poems

Una Frawley from Athlone has released a collection of stories and poems inspired by her life experiences entitled The Son Shone Through.

Born and raised in Athlone, Una has always had a passion for writing but never had the confidence to take the step of having her work published. It was not until her sister Teresa came upon Una's work accidentally that she gave it a second thought.

"I never wanted anyone to see what I wrote until one day my sister Teresa came to visit," Una says. "She came across one of my poems and asked who the writer was. I said 'Me' with a nervous laugh. I would have torn them up or thrown them in the fire until Teresa told me that she loved them. I am glad I didn't and that I put together this book, especially as Teresa passed away in October, 2015. It is for my sister Teresa, she was the one who believed in me."

Una's book is a collection of stories and poems based both on personal experience and on issues of interest to her, including the 1916 Rising.

The Son Shone Through is currently for sale for €10. For more information or to purchase the book call Una on (085 ) 1763958.
