Athlone Credit Union would like to invite you to an open evening in the Radisson Blu Hotel Athlone on Monday, July 25, at 8pm to learn a little more about what a volunteer does within a credit union and how you can help map its future plans in the community.
Seamus McKenna has been a volunteer/board director for almost two years. As part of his duties he serves on two committees – The Nomination Committee and the Staff Liaison/Remuneration Committee.
"I personally became involved with Athlone Credit Union because I strongly believe in the concept and ethos of the credit union movement and the support it allows to the ordinary individual to financial services and in particular, affordable lending," Seamus says.
"As a person who has been involved in volunteering in various organisations over the years, I am painfully aware of the difficulties faced by the ordinary individual especially after the recent disastrous 'boom to bust' economy which impacted on an unacceptable number of our citizens.
"Our workload is shared out among the elected directors and volunteers as each serves on various committees. Athlone Credit Union currently has among its committees – The Board Oversight Committee, The Nominations Committee, The Credit Committee, The Credit Control Committee, The Audit Committee, The Staff Liaison/Remuneration Committee, and The IT and Marketing Committee.
I would strongly urge all among the community, especially those with skills relevant to the categories required to come on board. I can promise all who take up this mantle, it will be a win-win for you and the community in which you live.
"You will gain many friends, develop additional skills which will serve you well in your career (no matter what that is ) and you will be confident in the knowledge that you are supporting the livelihood of an enormous number of people who populate this wonderful town with such great potential – Athlone. I am certain that credit unions are needed now - more than ever."
