Westmeath county footballer Kieran Gavin was one of two recipients of a Cadbury Football Scholarship in Dublin College University last week.
The Cadbury Football Scholarships are awarded in recognition of the sporting potential of under 21 footballers attending various universities in Ireland, as part of the Cadbury sponsorship of the GAA Football U-21 Championship which is currently underway.
Kieran, a first year engineering student at DCU, has represented Westmeath at U-14, U-16, minor, U-21, and senior level. In 2007, he made his senior inter-county debut for Westmeath and in 2008 started every competitive game for Westmeath which won the NFL Division 2 title the same year.
He has been a stalwart for Mullingar Shamrocks, and has won a county minor championship with the club as well as two county U-21 titles. He is currently on the Sigerson Cup team and was part of the team that reached this year’s O’Byrne Cup final.
Kieran is the second Westmeath footballer to be awarded a Cadbury Scholarship this year. John Connellan from Athlone received his scholarship at NUIG last November.
Cadbury Ireland is sponsoring football scholarships in NUI Galway, University of Limerick, University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin College University, University College Cork and Jordanstown campus of the University of Ulster.
