Volunteering in our Times’ is the theme of this year’s Cura conference to be held in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone next weekend, February 20-22.
Cura’s 32nd annual conference will be attended by approximately 230 delegates from the 16 Cura centres throughout the country. The conference will be officially opened on Friday February 20 at 7pm.
Cura provides a free and confidential counselling service to all those who may experience a crisis at any stage of their pregnancy. The service is offered to women, boyfriends, partners, and parents.
The focus has always been, and continues to be, on those in crisis because of a pregnancy, to enable them to access the support they need in a calm, secure, and confidential space for as long as that support is needed.
Cura had 3,581 telephone and 1,866 face to face contacts in their centres in 2008, 104 of which were requests for post-abortion counselling.
Cura’s services include free pregnancy testing, a telephone helpline for information and support, pregnancy counselling from a trained counsellor, and a school awareness programme.
They also offer support for the baby’s father, grandparents, and other family members; information on and referral to medical services; information on social welfare and other rights and entitlements; help with accommodation; counselling after an abortion by a trained counsellor; and referral to other relevant support services if required.
Athlone Cura is very pleased to hold the annual conference once again in Athlone, where there has been a Cura centre at Shalom, St Mary’s Place since 1985.
