Patrick McGovern exhibition at Aidan Heavey Library

As part of the 1916 Centenary Programme, the Aidan Heavey Library is hosting 'Ireland in History', a solo exhibition of current works by Westmeath artist Patrick McGovern.

The exhibition launch takes place on Tuesday, June 21, at 6pm. It will be opened by Dave O'Shea from The Chimera Gallery, Mullingar.

Patrick McGovern is a historical Irish artist living in Moate. He is proudly self-taught, having developed a unique style which blends loose impressionist technique with an earth palette in a style best described as 'Northern Art School'.

The exhibition includes many pieces which tell a story relating to 20th century Irish history. It is inspired by the people and places of Ireland during this period. County librarian, Paula O'Dornan, said: "We are particularly delighted to welcome this exhibition to the library. The colours and the streetscapes evoke nostalgia and allow people to make a connection with period and place."

Admission to the exhibition is free. For further details contact the Aidan Heavey Library on (090 ) 6442157. Follow Patrick McGovern Art on Facebook and Twitter. Check out the Westmeath centenary programme at www.westmeathcoco.ie
