Athlone Film Club are pleased to announce the launch of a children's film club this Sunday February 15 at 2.30pm in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone. The club has chosen three classic films that will not only delight children but adults who are a child at heart!
The opening film is the much loved, The Wizard of Oz. Follow Dorothy, the lion, scarecrow, and the tin man along the yellow brick road as they look for a 'better place beyond the rainbow’. A sentiment probably shared by a lot of us right now! What better way to leave the pervading gloom and doom behind than to be carried away on this enthralling, magical adventure with equally enthralling music. It's one of the most famous movies of all time and most of us have probably seen it on our television screens, but imagine how much more magical the film will be, viewed on a big screen and in the comfortable setting of the Dean Crowe Theatre.
A further treat is in store for Athlone audiences March 29 with the screening of ET, the 1982 science fiction film co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg. It tells the story of Elliot, a lonely boy who befriends a friendly alien, dubbed 'ET', who is stranded on Earth. Elliot and his siblings help the alien return home while attempting to keep it hidden from their mother and the government.
The final movie this season in the children's film club will be The Goonies, to be screened April 19.
The Goonies is a 1985 adventure-comedy film directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. A band of kids from the 'Goon Docks' neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregan, hoping to save their homes from demolition, go on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th -century pirate.
Children and adults alike will have an enjoyable experience with the Children's Film Club. Prices are only €5 for adults and €3 for children, while Film Club members are free.
So come along and join us on the yellow brick road for The Wizard of Oz, Sunday February 15 at 2.30pm.
