Moate Partnership Group launches new parking initiative

Moate Partnership Group has launched a new parking initiative called ‘Please don’t park me all day’.

The initative has been launched in a bid to encourage people not to leave their cars parked in the town for long periods of time in order to free up space for potential shoppers.

Chairman of Moate Partnership Group, Cllr Michael O’Brien, said: “Parking is a considerable issue in the town. We’ve carried out surveys in the town and our findings show us that over 60 cars are parked for hours on the main street of Moate every day. In some cases they are traders, staff, students, people taking the bus, or people gone on holidays.

“We’re trying to encourage these people to park off the street in car parks or spaces provided behind trader premises in order to free up car space for shoppers. We’re also encouraging people to use car parks such as the community car park where there is ample space available. We all would like to park outside the front door of our destination but this is not always possible. We will be marketing the initiative on our Facebook page, with signage, and we will be in contact with all local traders to inform them of the initiative.”
