Petition launched to update Monksland playground

More than 200 people have signed a petition calling on Roscommon County Council to provide a suitable playground for young children in Monksland.

Local woman Caroline Reid started the petition on the website change.org this week, which at time of writing had amassed 229 signatures.

The petition, which will be delivered to Cllr Ivan Connaughton (FF ), is calling on the council to update the current playground to include equipment suitable for toddlers.

Ms Reid points out that not all parents have a car available to drive to playgrounds in different parts of the town.

“Our children here in Monksland deserve to have a playground they can go to and enjoy. The current one has nothing in it for younger kids. By updating the existing playground, by extending it and adding toddler-friendly equipment, families would no longer need to travel as far and many people could walk to it instead of needing a car.

“Monksland has a big population and it’s shocking that the needs of families and our younger generation have been forgotten. We are asking the council to please put funding in place to update the playground so our kids have somewhere to go this summer.”
