Regina Bushell, founder and managing director of Grovelands Childcare has been named Business Person of the Year at the Athlone Chamber of Commerce Awards. The black-tie awards event took place in the Sheraton Athlone Hotel on Saturday, April 16.
Regina established Grovelands Childcare in 1992 and now operates four multi-award winning childcare and early education centres in Athlone, Tullamore, and Mullingar. Some 80 professional childcare workers are employed by Grovelands Childcare in the Midlands who take care of 750 children across the four centres.
Speaking about her award win, Regina said: “To be recognised in this way in my home town is a real honour and means so much to me. I would like to sincerely thank the Chamber for this award as well as my husband Ronan, daughter Deirdre and the entire team at Grovelands Childcare whose support and commitment is crucial to the success of our organisation.”
Grovelands Childcare was named as Best Multiple Creche at the national maternity and infant awards for the third year in a row last year. More recently, Grovelands' four childcare and early education centres in Athlone, Tullamore, and Mullingar have all achieved the Healthy Ireland Smart Start Award. The Healthy Ireland Smart Start programme is specifically designed for pre-school children aged between three and five years of age and encompasses all aspects of a healthy lifestyle including oral health, physical health, health and safety, emotional wellbeing, nutrition, and healthy eating.
