Athlone-based Hodson Bay Group has submitted a planning application for a €40m hotel development near Dublin’s city centre.
The plan describes a four-star, 263-bedroom hotel to be built in the Coombe area of the city close to St James’s Gate. The Coombe is one of the oldest areas in Dublin and is situated beside Christchurch Catheral.
The Hodson Bay Group is based in Athlone and currently owns and operates three properties: the Hodson Bay Hotel, the Galway Bay Hotel, and Sheraton Athlone Hotel, with over 550 people employed across the business.
Hodson Bay Group chairman, John O’Sullivan, said: “The new hotel will create employment and offer a significant addition to the tourism offering in the area. The hotel will complement existing tourist attractions in the immediate vicinity and will continue the group’s ethos as a family-run operation which is founded on serving domestically sourced produce and, in this particular area, locally produced craft beers and boutique whiskeys.”
