Cycling enthusiasts from around the country will descend on Sligo over the May bank holiday weekend for the An Post Yeats Tour of Sligo.
This popular event is the largest mass participation leisure cycling event in the north west, with 2,000 cyclists of all ages and cycling experience expected to take to their bikes in Sligo.
The event headquarters at the Institute of Technology Sligo will be a hive of activity for the duration of the weekend, commencing with the family fun day on Saturday, April 30.
Hundreds of families and newcomers to cycling will take part in the 10K Hazelwood Spin and the 2K Bike Trail in the company of event ambassador Richie Power, the eight-time All-Ireland winning hurler for Kilkenny who recently retired and has taken up cycling. Registration for the family fun day takes place on the day.
On Sunday, May 1, participants taking part in the 160K Ox Mountain Challenge will assemble and head off at 9am. This will be followed by cyclists on the 100K Innisfree Tour, which will set off at 10am. Cyclists on the 60K Lough Gill Circuit will depart at 10.30am.
Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is the nominated charity for the event. To avail of the early bird entry fee participants are encouraged to register by Wednesday, April 20.
