Tidy Towns prepare for 2016 competition

Sharon Eastwood, Tidy Towns adjudicator, will be the speaker at the Tidy Towns workshop taking place on Saturday, April 16, in the executive lounge, Áras an Chontae, Mullingar.

This is a three-hour workshop taking place from 9.30am to 12.30pm which will focus on the entry form and the issues that the judges of the Tidy Towns competition will be looking for. The completion of the application form for the Tidy Towns competition can cause stress within many groups as the closing date of May 20 draws near, but this workshop will ease the stress and give those participating a head start.

Ruth Maxwell, Environment Department, said: “Tidy Towns groups work tirelessly to improve their community and this workshop has been organised to ensure that the work done is recognised and rewarded accordingly. As the focus will be on the entry form, it is recommended that there would be at least two people from each Tidy Town Group in attendance so that they can maximise the benefits of the workshop.

“The individual groups will be asked to draw out of their own experiences and the work they have done over the past year for each category of the competition so that by the end of the workshop they will have the bones of their application form.”

Sharon Eastwood will be the facilitator at the workshop and she has worked as a national Tidy Towns adjudicator judge since 2009 following a recruitment drive linked to the newer categories of the competition. She is a biologist by training and specialises in the newer competition categories of ‘Wildlife & Natural Amenities’ and ‘Sustainable Waste & Resource Management’.

In addition to her work as a Tidy Towns adjudicator, Sharon also provides Tidy Towns lectures on behalf of the Department of the Environment’s National Tidy Town Unit and she is also a director of Woodrow Sustainable Solutions.

The workshop is free to attend but booking is essential. To book a place email [email protected] or call (044 ) 9332125.
