A report on the submissions to the Athlone Boundary Review Committee is due to come before Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly by today (Thursday ).
The report will summarise the almost 28,000 submissions which were recorded prior to the January deadline, and make a recommendation as to whether or not the Westmeath county boundary should be changed to extend into parts of Roscommon.
The announcement of the review last June prompted huge public opposition across County Roscommon to the proposed boundary change, which would see a section of Roscommon, including Monksland, Bealnamulla, Drum, and Kiltoom, become part of Westmeath.
A total of 27,949 submissions were received, of which 5,061 were received electronically and the remainder in hard copy. Each submission is available to view on the boundary review website www.athloneboundaryreview.ie
It is not yet clear when the report to the Minister will be published.
