Moate St Patrick’s Day parade committee has announced Peggy Gavin as Grand Marshal for this year’s celebrations.
The committee has also revealed that the Strictly Moate Dancing Group have confirmed their participation and will take part in the parade, performing the group dance routine that went down such a treat at the Strictly event in Moate this past weekend.
The theme of this year’s parade will be ‘1916 to 2016: A celebration of community’. This year will see the addition of a live music set in the centre of town prior to the commencement of the parade. The music will start at 3.45pm and the parade will commence from the Carmelite at 4.30pm, making its way through the town before ending at Tuar Ard.
There will be prizes on the day for the best float along with prizes in various other categories and a shop window display competition. Local floats, a wide variety of bands, vintage cars, and tractors and a few surprises will be among the main attractions at the parade.
Chairman of Moate Partnership Group, Cllr Michael O’Brien, said: “This year’s parade will be special as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. I think that it’s very important for all the clubs, groups, organisations and traders to embrace the parade by entering a float and celebrate 100 years of community in Moate. On behalf of the Moate Partnership Group, I’d like to encourage everyone to come along on the day and join in the Paddy’s Day fun.”
