There’s still time to enter St Patrick’s Day parade

Entries are still invited for this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade, which takes place in Athlone from 2.30pm this Thursday, March 17.

This year’s St Patrick’s Day festivities will see Athlone come alive with colour and musical entertainment throughout the town.

The main event of the day, the parade, will lead off from the Diskin Centre, Golden Island at 2.30pm, making its way through the town to Connaught Street via the viewing stand at St Peter’s Square.

The Army Band will lead the way, with Athlone Town Pipe Band and Athlone Ravens Marching Band also providing musical accompaniment for the parade. A host of community groups, sporting organisations, commercial floats, and a few surprises will also feature.

There will be music from buskers who will be dotted throughout the town, as well as Irish dancers, to add to the festive atmosphere on the day. The parade has been organised by Tonnta, with support from Athlone Community Taskforce and Westmeath County Council.

Any community or commercial groups who would like to take part in the parade are asked to email [email protected] or call (090 ) 6476615 to book their spot - all are welcome!
