Westmeath launch of Darkness Into Light 2016

The launch of the Westmeath and Longford Darkness Into Light 2016 events will take place in the Athlone Springs Hotel this Monday, March 14 at 7pm.

The event will be launched by Joan Freeman, founder of suicide and self-harm crisis centre Pieta House, and X Factor star, Athlone native Joe McCaul, will be special guest at the launch.

Taking place on Saturday, May 7, Darkness Into Light is a unique, early morning fundraising event which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking. This year, Darkness Into Light will take place in over 100 locations in Ireland, including Athlone, Mullingar, and Longford, as well as abroad.

Last year’s event was a huge success, with €46,000 raised between the two venues in Westmeath and €23,000 raised in Longford.

Registration and route information for Darkness Into Light is available now at dil.pieta.ie, and all are welcome to attend the launch in Athlone.
