Moate and Castledaly officially launch community text alert system

Moate and Castledaly Community Text Alert Groups have officially launched their text alert system.

Community text alert is a community initiative where the Gardaí work in conjunction with the community in order to help prevent crime in the community. People are encouraged to call the number on the text alert signs if they see suspicious behaviour or activity in their general locality. If the Gardaí believe the information to be important they then send out a text to the local contact, the local contact in turn sends a text to members of the community text alert group.

Local Independent Cllr Michael O’Brien, who was involved in setting up both groups, said: “This is a very important initiative for the community as it promotes a close working relationship between community and the Gardaí in working to prevent crime. I’d like to commend the Gardaí and both group committees for their hard work and commitment to this project. If people would like to receive texts they can sign up at Moate Garda Station, Moate Library, or Moate Credit Union.”

The chairman of Castledaly Community Text Alert, John McAuley, said: “I’m delighted that it’s up and running now and I hope it will go someway in fighting crime in our community. I’d like to thank our committee and the people of Castledaly for their commitment and support.”
