It was a moment of sheer forgetfulness which prompted a Midlands lady to buy not one but two separate EuroMillions tickets in the SuperValu store, Monksland Retail Centre, Athlone in February.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, has been playing the EuroMillions for a number of months with a friend of hers. She purchased one ticket for them on Saturday, February 6, for the draws on the following Tuesday and Friday. Forgetting she had already made the purchase, she returned to the store again on Tuesday, the day of the draw, and made a second purchase.
Both tickets, each with the same numbers, resulted in two separate Match 5 wins for the ladies, each of which was worth €21,449. The two lucky friends collected their winnings from National Lottery offices in Dublin on Monday. They were very happy with the way the double win evolved.
“I don’t know what made me forget I’d already played,” the woman said on collecting their cheque. “We’re only playing EuroMillions together since this year and our lucky numbers were 6,9,13,28,37, which we picked ourselves. There were only two Match 5 EuroMillions wins in Ireland on that draw night and we had both of them, so we’re delighted with ourselves.
“We plan to use the wins to holiday in either France, Portugal, or Eastern Europe. We’ll pay off a few bills as well. And we’ll definitely continue to play EuroMillions together; it’s obviously a really lucky game for us,” they smiled.
