AIT students take to the skies for charity

A group of students in Athlone Institute of Technology are throwing themselves out of an aeroplane in aid of Athlone IT Students’ Union Raise and Give Week.

Eleven brave souls ranging from engineering to nursing students are fundraising for Pieta House and the AIT Hardship Fund. Niall Buckley, a mechanical engineering student, said: “We are doing this to raise money for two worthy causes which are close to Athlone students’ hearts. We have seen rising levels of suicide across all ages and we hope that by raising these funds we can support the important services Pieta House provides.”

AIT Students’ Union president Kevin Ronan commended the efforts of the students and wished them the best of luck in their fundraising. “It is great to see a group of students get behind such worthy causes which we know will benefit from the funds raised. To throw yourself out of an aeroplane is no easy task and the enthusiasm of the group is fantastic.”

The parachute jump will take place in Abbeyshrule Aerodrome, Co Longford, on Wednesday, February 17. If you would like to contribute towards the cause you can make contact with AIT Students’ Union by phone on (090 ) 6468067 or by calling into the office.
