O’Brien welcomes new footpath and other works

Cllr Michael O’Brien has welcomed the provision of a new footpath on the Ballycumber road in Moate in this year’s improvement works scheme.

Speaking this week, Cllr O’Brien said: “This is something I’ve been fighting for since I got elected. Currently there is no footpath along this stretch of road from the Clara road junction to the Grovemount housing estate. I’ve received many calls from residents to have a footpath installed here in the interests of public safety, so I’m delighted to be in a position to include it in my discretionary budget for local improvements in 2016.

“This year I’ve asked the council to give a particular focus to the east side of the town, so I’m delighted that Clara Road has also being included for footpath repairs. The council have also approved the 2016 roads programme and I’m delighted that many of the roads that I requested for attention have been included in the programme.

“Some of the local roads included in the programme are Ballymore Road, Moate, from Sliabh Rua to the bridge, the Ridge road from Ballymore Road to Rosemount Road, Knockdomney, Ballynakill, Moneen to Ballscarvan, Carn Park/Mount Temple, Streamstown, Ballymore and Farnagh to Pike Cross.”
