Athlone Mental Health Association extends gratitude to supporters of Mental Health Awareness Week

Athlone Mental Health Association would like to take this opportunity to thank Athlone Towncentre and particularly Shirley Delahunt for their tremendous support prior to and throughout the Mental Health Awareness Week in October, 2015.

The aim of Mental Health Awareness Week was to enhance the general public’s understanding of mental health issues and promote the importance of positive mental health for us all. The Athlone Mental Health Association feel this was achieved and hope to hold a similar event in 2016; they are aiming higher this year with a view to attracting even more interest from the public.

The association would also like to thank the retailers based in the Towncentre such as Eason, H&M, Clarkes, Regatta, Fields Jewellers, McGorisks Pharmacy, Marks & Spencer, Elverys, and the Art & Hobby Shop for their generous donations and support during the week. In addition to the Awareness Week, the assocation also ran an art competition for pupils attending the local primary schools.

The objective was to get the children talking about their emotions and recognising every emotion has a very important part to play in life, even the painful ones. To all the children who entered the art competition, the schools, and most importantly the teachers who encouraged and supported them in their fantastic creations, the association would like to offer its sincerest gratitude.
