“Full palette” the new exhibition by Athlone Arts Group

If you are looking for a Christmas idea with a difference, Athlone Arts Group are showing a new body of work in Athlone Towncentre in the balcony area opposite the entrance to Marks & Spencer. What could be nicer than the gift of an original painting by local artists in your favourite medium - watercolour, oils, acrylics, pastels, or mixed media.

The exhibition runs from Monday, December 14 to Sunday, December 20. For those who wish to buy prints of some of the paintings as a cheaper alternative, they will also be available.

This year there is another dimension to the exhibition, with crafts added to the mix. Jill Parkinson has created some beautiful Christmas decorations and cards, all handmade.

Even if you have your Christmas list all ticked off, you can come along to view the variety of paintings on display and see which ones appeal to you. The subjects include local scenes, flowers, portraits, and abstract paintings to name but a few. All paintings are reasonably priced.

Athlone Arts Group, have paintings hanging in Savoury Fare Restaurant, and Dr. Rose O’Leary’s surgery in the Bonavalley Medical Centre. The group would like to thank their sponsors, Athlone Towncentre, for providing the space, and Solas and Westmeath County Council.

So if you are shopping in Athlone Towncentre this Christmas call up to the balcony and meet some of the artists and check out the display. You never know, you may find that one elusive gift.
