Clonkill make it look easy against St Mullin’s

Clonkill cruised to a convincing Leinster SHC quarter-final 4-9 to 0-9 victory over Carlow outfit St Mullin’s at Netwatch Cullen Park last Sunday.

Brendan Murtagh and Niall Dowdall were the stars for Clonkill, who departed at the break armed with a healthy 3-4 to 0-7 advantage.

St Mullin’s were unable to deal with Clonkill in the second quarter as the Westmeath champions set up a provincial semi-final clash with Wexford side Oulart the Ballagh.

Home team St Mullin’s started brightly edging 0-3 to 0-1 ahead, but a foul by goalkeeper Kevin Kehoe on Anthony Price resulted in a Clonkill penalty.

Murtagh lashed the sliotar to the back of the St Mullin’s net before adding another opportunistic goal in the 19th minute.

As the interval approached, Niall Dowdall pounced for a third Clonkill major as they went in six points in front at the break.

After the restart, Niall Dowdall drilled in Clonkill’s fourth goal and from then to the finish all that needed to be decided was the margin of victory.
