Christy Shine, who works at Tesco Ballinasloe, has been named the winner of the ‘DotCom Colleague of the Year’ category at the 2015 Tesco Ireland Values Awards.
This is the fourth year of the Tesco Ireland Values Awards, which took place at a special ceremony in the Clyde Court Hotel in Ballsbridge, Dublin, on Thursday, October 15. Voted for by Tesco colleagues countrywide, the awards recognise excellence amongst the retailer’s 14,500 strong workforce across nine different categories, including Colleague of the Year, Local Community Star, Best Fresh Counter, and Team of the Year, among others.
This year, for the first time, customers were also invited to nominate for someone they felt went that extra mile in the categories ‘Service superstar’ and ‘DotCom colleague of the year’. Open to customer votes this year, Christy was nominated for the DotCom colleague of the year category by a customer based in the UK. Deirdre Lyman orders groceries for her elderly parents in Ireland each week.
Following an address error, Deirdre was concerned her parents would not receive their delivery. Christy personally assured Deirdre that he would make sure it arrived on time and to the right address. Each week, he delivers their groceries with a smile and helps to unload the delivery allowing Deirdre to relax knowing her parents are looked after, a true ambassador for the strong relationships built everyday through Tesco’s grocery home shopping service.
Andrew Yaxley, CEO Tesco Ireland, said: “We are always amazed at the lengths our colleagues from across the country will go to, to try a make a small difference to a customer’s day, and these awards give us an opportunity to celebrate these exceptional contributions, as recognised by the colleagues that they work with every day.
“We couldn’t do what we do without their commitment, dedication and passion and they represent just a small portion of the thousands of our fantastic colleagues countrywide that go above and beyond in their local communities each day.” RTÉ’s Brian Ormond was on hand to MC the ceremony and to present the awards to the winners for their notable contributions to communities across Ireland, and more than 250 Tesco employees were in attendance to celebrate their success.
